assorted things

First Things: I'm pretty bummed (and sorry) that I never made it out to louisville- lack of ride combined with winter break lethargy= no escape from greensboro. Alas.

Life= Schoolwork, PCG, applications applications applications.

Saturday was amazing though- went canvassing for Obama in Dillon, SC. Nasty, fucking cold and rainy day. The morning got rained out and we spent our time with futile phone banking. Almost every door we knocked on was so fucking nice- pretty much everyone invited us inside out of the rain to talk to them, and asked if we needed anything before we left and to stay warm and dry. They had basically nothing and they were still offering us shelter and umbrellas. There was one house/trailer we got to that I really hoped was abandoned, but people were still living there. The Mceachrons took the cake though- really enthusiastic husband who volunteered for election day this saturday, sweetest wife, cutest little girls ("see the pretty ladies?" "I see you and you!")- were using a portable campstove to boil water as their heat source. When it was 25 degrees outside. I could hardly stand it. It makes you both lose faith in humanity (it doesn't matter who wins the election, realistically, I don't see any of these conditions improving) and hope that much harder that we can fix things, some how, some way, for the McEachrons (and everyone else) of the world.

When I canvassed the first half of the day I was with this guy Chris and a reporter from our school newspaper (who also rode down with us). Chris is a person whom I can only describe as a bro- but so goddamned smooth and knowledgeable that I still don't know whether I'd rather be him or punch him. Aside from being called "boss", "kiddo", and "cuzzo" (for serious), I got to listen to both his and the reporters insane stories- Devin's various campaign beat hilarities, and Chris's interning in Washington Shenanigans and all of the poitical celebs he's stalked/met. Apparently Kerry is as big a jerk as the media portrays him. I listened with wonder and oozed jealousy. I also got to watch this fucking master convince someone who was semi-leaning towards Edwards to vote Obama. Sweet Jesus, it was amazing.

The second half of the day I was with my suitemates and able to talk a bit more. I was left speechless most of the time though- the neighborhoods I was in with the guys were pretty fucking poor (cardboard for windows and such), but at least their foundations were in the ground. Still, it was great to actually talk to potential voters, try to hook them up with rides for primary day, etc.

It started to sleet and snow when were heading back to NC, so the 2 hour trip ended up taking 4. Still completely worth it though. I really hope I can make it back on this Saturday.

warning: liberal rage ahead

Dear South Dakota,

FUCK YOU.

no love,
amy (and what's left of sanity in america)

But seriously, in the seventeen years of my life I have never understood why there has ever been an abortion "debate". First of all, it was legalized quite some years ago- religious wing nuts should've just gotten the fuck over it already. Second of all, reproductive rights ARE FUCKING HUMAN RIGHTS. South Dakota needs to wrap their heads around this. It is so fucking crucial to have access to all things related to family planning, including abortion. Period. Why are they fighting this? Who is it hurting if there is an option out there? Nobody. But it sure fucking hurts if there is no choice at all, assholes. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that doesn't mean you get to ruin other people's lives by forcing that opinion onto everyone else. There should be no debate. There should be no qualifiers like "blah blah i'm pro-choice but there should be limits on how many abortions women should be allowed to get blah blah assfuck". I've heard this statement so many times and everytime I hear it i die a little on the inside. What, because you think women are vapid stupid whores who treat getting an abortion like it's some happy candy? It is the smallest minority, if it even exists because i seriously doubt it, who would even use abortion- already a loaded, scary ordeal, as their only method of protecting themselves. Plus, why the fuck do you care how many abortions someone gets? It is, in fact, nunya. Sex is not a sin, and that statement has the same sexist thinking behind a lot of pro-life people's stances, which is that limiting resources available to women is punishing them for being too whorey for their standards. It's absoludicrous. This could seriously be about twenty pages longer but i am stopping myself before i get too heated and even more incoherent. Though I swear if roe v wade truly is overturned im going to pee on the nearest courthouse and flee to canada away from the idiots who think i'm too stupid to know what to do with my own goddamned body.

It was so much fun setting up and having a huge crowd of kids watching kids who actually had money shove plates full of shaving cream into goodall's (and other teachers) face(s) we made bank- about fifty bucks, way more than any lame bake sale. I'td be nice to go skating tonite, but it prolly won't happen. Whatev. Today was lurv.

This day belongs on VH1

Because it's the best EVER. We SLAUGHTERED the republicans, 139-52. FUCK YES. I want to kiss each and every person who was wonderful enough to vote for us. and the amazing dems of 6th period won by tons too. It was democrat day for sure. Tracey(on the republicans-that-we-beat side) told me and Jessica that our side was simply better in every way- defintely speeches, arguably video (like, real campaign video vs "funny"), and we might not have been rich enough to buy a trillion posters, but obviously we didn't need them. Kristin wrote an amazing intro in one hour, that was the best public speaking i've ever done(my voice started breaking near the end, but hopefully it came off as intense passion), and Wes was fantastic. That speech was fantastic. I'm so proud of our group you can't even imagine, everyone contributed such a huge portion and we worked together really well, thanks in most part to our lovely campaign manager. And I came home to hear a very sour piece of news, and all i could think was i wrote a major platform stance on that very thing that we could just fix if i had a chance. After everything, the stress, dealing with classrooms full of people that made me think we were going to lose for sure it just paid off so much.

This settles it. I'm going into politics. I want to feel like this after every time I help get a piece of legislation passed. I want to feel like this all the time.

After school Caity and I went to Dairy Queen and got celebratory blizzards and celebrated and camwhored a little bit. There was this old guy who walked out dairy queen and just stared at me while i changed into my sneakers. Like, he was rubbernecking. What, has noone seen a teenaged girl in a suit leaning out of a ginormous old people car in a parking lot changing shoes? psh. PS caity you know that pic you took of me on the tables on the senior patio? I'd be way much obliged if you would put it online, i may like to use it for something, if you help me.

I want to do a lot more than just Sara and Elizabeth's party this weekend. Caity, anyone, any ideas?

PSS I can’t believe lj is so stupid and took this long to post…I wrote this hours ago…at freaking 4 something.

Moday is approaching far too quickly

Today turned out so much better than I thought it would, what a happy surprise.

Had to be at the stupid driver's place for the other 5 hours of that damn class. Nearly fell asleep. But the second half was much more fun after i found the Southeast Christian Church's newletter (which looks like and is the size of an actual newspaper, muy creepy) during lunch. Well not so much found as took one to read from the gigantic stack of em. There's this entire section on how to "Redeem Halloween" and i nearly died laughing. I never knew pumpkin carving could be an object lesson about the Gospel. I don't mean to be mean or offensive, but the stuff in there was so ludicrous. i wish i had a scanner to show all of you... maybe i'll type in the better stuff later. I also helped this poor little kid trying to get food from the vending machine, she was too short to reach the money slot, aw.

Chilled at home for a while, then I was forced to make an appearance at my mom's friend's Sukkot party. Being surrounded by all of these random eighth graders and freshman who are/were my brother's friends was so strange. The chick who used to have a crush on my little brother has turned into a little tramp, so that was fun to see. I thought they were all so innocent. I felt so very old. I've said "so" a lot in this paragraph. I also had a bunch a jello in the shape of Stars of David and contemplated whether or not this was some sort of delicious sacrilege. Mmmmmm, blueberry flavored sacrilege.

After I finally got away from that "party", headed over to Amber's for a movie night. Saw the last half of halloween H20, which is a pretty fun slasher, and then the village, which was a lot funnier than it was probably supposed to be. There was some goings on during the movie about some fights down at homecoming, but Amber's daddy saved the day. Yay Amber's daddy. Her costume is very shiny and pretty.

The only reason i decided to update was so i could type in all of that insane shyte from the southeast newsletter, and i got to tired to do that. Oh well, maybe later.

So the family and I (oh btw i'm in nc being with the fam this lovely four day weekend) went mini golfing tonight, and there was this lesbian couple behind us. That's not what got my attention. What did was that the more stereotypical looking one of the couple was decked out head to toe in denim. And it makes me wonder where she got her shirt, because i thought they had the sense to stop making denim shirts back in the early 90's.I also went on the bumper boats, they were actually fun. Though the guy in line behind us couldn't stop singing about his pimp juice.

The spider is only the size of a small elephant.

I'd very much like for it to be summer again.

Or past the time my college applications are sent and these damn notecards are done. Though this just means all the awesome fun stuff is coming up.

So I officially know the colleges I'm applying to and majors i think i might want to, well, major in:

Colleges
UNC Chapel Hill
NC State
East Carolina State
Murray state (because if i absolutely have to stay in Kentucky, then i at least would like to be on the same campus as my best friend)

Majors
History
Political Science

The only thing with a history major is that it is so incredibly concentrated in one particular place and era, I'm not too sure about that.
If I don't get an A on tomorrow's psychology test, then I am a monkey's uncle.

Today was good, for a monday. I walked through the doors and proceeded to strangle elizabeth while she explained herself. I let her live, barely. Mostly I was distracted by the fun birthday present Szuyung and Amber got me. THANKS YOU GUYS!!!! That's pretty much why i'm writing in here right here anyway, to say thanks again because you guys are supa-cool. I also <3 my rainbow earrings like I'm blind. Caity knows. My mothers could never communicate like that.

English has me perplexed. I already knew my opening papragraph sucked, but now mrs. allen is under the impression that i'm some sort of uber-jew who foud inner peace with her temple. Or something. That's pretty laughable, even more laughable since my piece is talking about me swearing really loudly in front of my entire congregation. It's just that there's really nowhere to go with it after that, ya know? The other part of english that's got me all in a bafflement is this blog thing of mrs. allens. I somehow found her profile today, but there's no link anywhere after that to, you know, the actual blog with assignments and stuff. If anyone would like to direct link me I'd be much obliged.

I felt kinda bad for the sub in GOPO today. He tried so hard to engage us in discussion about current events, but he crashed and burned. I really would have liked to help his plight, but in all honesty I had better things to do. He'll get over it.

Everythings a plot, I swear.

So in 4th period, I got a note to go see Mr. Moss immediately , so i went, immediately. After waiting for like 10 minutes with justin v, mr. moss finally shows up to tell us that we were "commended students" in the national merit thingamabob and even though we're not in the running for anything, we could still put it on our college apps. Kind of a "congratulations, you lose" sort of thing. goody. So urgent, too.

I finally remembered why i'm so tired- i didn't go to bed last night.

I'm still pissed about missing the west wing premiere. Anybody know if/when it's going to rerun?

I'll stop clogging your friends page with pointless drivel......................now.

AHHH MY INTERNET IS BACK I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU.

Today is also my birthday. The big 1-7. I can see rated R moives without a guardian getting me in, yey. We need to see the 40 year old virgin sometime. Is it still in theatres? I'm so very lame.

It's so wonderful to be back, I can't even say. I'm so incredibly happy, even with homework and Mr. Hawes def making me do all of my psych stuff wrong, but elizabeth is photocopying all of her shyte for me. She also let me sit in her gorgeous car with the AC on full blast so i wouldn't die of heatstroke while waiting for my mom to pick me up.

I love my schedule so so much. And classes, and people, and life. I'm still all spirited up for the football game tonite.

You'd think I'd have a lot to say, but no. I haven't seen the inside of a mall since June. And those were Israeli malls. I can't even say the last time I was in an American mall. That's being fixed this weekend, hopefully.

I'm getting birthday presents! Mom made it sound like I wasn't getting anything, because there really is nothing to get me and simply being here is present enough, but i opened the cupboard and there they were!

Happy Friday!

Aw, you guys make me smile to no end :).

Except I feel real bad because I promised myself I'd call some people today and never did, because I'm forgetful and rude like that. Hopefully they'll forgive and forget.

This isn't very interesting, so I guess I'll share my brother's favorite dream that he just told me about:

"So we're in our house, and my room is my room and the kitchen is the kitchen, but when you open the door to your room it's the jungles of Africa and there are tigers and they scare me so I don't go in there. I go get dad to come to the kitchen with me to get a glass of orange juice, except when we get to the kitchen it's filled with bears. They try to attack and eat me so we go back, I was really freaked out but dad didn't care. And this all really sucks because I am terrified of bears and tigers!"

clap clap clap

I'm so giddy right now. Wanna know why? I just saw the tunak tunak video. And did the dance. It's not the same than doing it in a gigantic mob so you can smash into eachother and get tossed about. I also listened to Gasolina today. Nostalgia, I guess. Maybe because Sneha called yesterday and we talked for like two hours. My tall Indian version of me is right, I refuse to lose touch with my posse any longer (GSP and louisville). I'm making a one call a day rule for myself, each day after I do (most) of my homework I'm going to call 1 friend, a new one each day. Because email and aim only go so far.

Stuff is so busy over here, and getting even busier. Home at 4:30, tedious amounts of homework, then driving, college/scholarship stuff, fixing my goddamned room (i'm still not completely unpacked yet and my room's already a sty). It's all good though, because there's a goal in mind, and for once i'm determined. It's almost a good feeling. Gotta start exercising again, too.

With hope and luck I might get Theo. He's not a ghettotabulous tank anymore though, Jenn took him to the shop so now he doesn't veer to the right anymore and you can roll the windows all the way down now since you don't have to yank them back up with your bare hands. Oh, and the bumper isn't attatched with duct tape anymore. Theo's just a plain ol' tank now. Maybe possibly soon to be MY tank, though :)

There's something to be said for being able to leave campus for lunch. Seniors here have that priveledge, and I've gone out with some neat peeps to dine on the local fast food almost every day. We have to limit ourselves though, because it's getting expensive. Today i had Cookout for the first time, it's pretty damn awesome, spicy fries and burgers and awesome shakes for real cheap. Meg literally yanked my shake out of the trash and polished it off because i left just a little bit in there. People around here really like their Cookout shakes, i guess.

My civics teacher is the Mr. Morgan incarnate, except 500 shades crazier and has hair. And he's a reverend who supports Bush. And he mispronounces every other word, especially after rambling on about grammar and being smart. And he laughs to himself and jerks around so much i think he's being exorcised. But he freaks out the freshmen I'm stuck with to no end, so I guess it evens out.

My math teacher could be Tori Murden's identical twin, swur. Everytime I walk in that class my mind wanders to sexless turtles. She plays tennis though, no rowing. She makes me realize how much i don't belong in calculus. Or anything pertaining to numbers whatsoever.

My yearbook class, however, makes me feel like a genius. Which means their yearbook sucks (and it does, their books for like the past 5 years are the most godawful things i have ever seen.). I almost feel like I really shouldn't be saying that because, let's face it, I'm probably the least visually creative person evar. I couldn't photoshop my way out of a paper bag. So when I get oohs and ahhs for adding a gradient to a premade shape on a premade layout (indesign has like every type of page pre-made and that's what we get to use, niiice) and getting asked how i did that and its oh-so-good, it's safe to say that this publication is in some serious shit.

The average SAT scores of last year's freshman for every college i looked at was so much lower than me for my verbal and so much higher for math. Yes, average means there are people who scored higher and lower in both areas, but it's still kinda disheartening. I haven't the faintest idea of where to go. My dad wants me to go to UNC or UK or Western Kentucky for the cheapness, but I'm just confuzzled.

The other day I was driving on some main roads with my dad and he told me to turn left, so i did. Then he was like "oh snap i meant right." and then i was on a road with an insane intersection and nearly killed us all and got honked at a lot. Man, whateva.

So tomorrow is my first day of school. Wish me luck, cause i've gone way past nervousness and am thouroughly settled into my worst-case scenario vision of tomorrow. I guess I'll be a good little person and list my schedule like everyone else:

1st- Adv Civics/Economics (Main Building)
2nd- Adv. Env. Science (Old Science Building)
3rd- AP Calculus AB (Old Science Building)
4th- Yearbook (Vocational Building)
5th- AP English (Main Building)
6th- AP GOPO (Main Building)

So there you go, that's where I'll be from (about...oy) 8:30-3:30. Yup, 6 periods, sleep in, stay late. And two of those classes are freshman classes, because according to North Carolina, I'm retarded. At least it'll give me time to shower in the mornings. I've switched from nighttime showers to morning showers ever since GSP, though I'm still not used to not being able to have conversations in the shower anymore.

This school is so random. Same amount of students as Eastern (1800 last year, 2000 this year) and yet, the school consists of 8 seperate buildings. Lame.
